Think You’ve Got What It Takes? Prove It.
Every so often, Melbourne Comedy Club hands the mic to the crowd. Part Gong Show, part talent show, part panel show, in the spirit of Kill Tony, Talent Show is our night for anyone to grab the mic and find out live whether they can hold a room, or get buzzed off trying.
New comic wanting your first crack at a real room? Old hand wanting to test new material in front of a panel? Got a mate who’s the clown of the group and reckons they’d smash it? Doesn’t matter if you’ve never touched a mic or you’ve done a thousand shows.
This is your shot.
What is Talent Show?
Talent Show is our live, unscripted panel format. A panel of comedians runs the room for the night, a bucket sits up front full of names, and one by one, those names get pulled at random and called up to perform.
There’s no lineup announced in advance, no set order, and no idea who’s going up next until their name comes out of the bucket. That’s true whether you’re in the crowd watching or sitting with your name already dropped in.
Once you’re up, you get one minute on the mic. That’s it. What you do with it is up to you: jokes, a bit, a rant, whatever you’ve got. The panel and the crowd decide in real time whether you’re killing it or dying, and either way, the panel pulls you aside straight after to dig into what just happened.
It doesn’t run on a fixed weekly slot. The day and time move around, so check the date above (or on our shows page) for the next one.
How it works
- Free entry, no experience required.
- Put your name (or your mate’s) on a piece of paper and drop it in the bucket.
- Throughout the night, names get pulled at random.
- If you get called out, you’re up with one minute on the mic to make the room laugh.
- Get the laughs and the glory, or fail hard in front of a packed house.
- Either way, the panel pulls you aside straight after for a short interview or a roast.
Free entry, great drink deals
There’s no cover charge and no catch, just cheap drinks and a room full of people hoping to see something ridiculous happen.
Come for the show, stay for the chaos.
No script, no safety net
The bucket pulls are random, the laughs are real. Nobody knows who’s going up next, including the people going up next. Try your best to be funny, but don’t be surprised if you get roasted by the panel after your set.
It’s all good natured so write your content, bring your best jokes, and be ready to laugh at yourself.
Book ahead
This one doesn’t run on a set night, so keep an eye on our upcoming dates rather than assuming it’s on this week.
Entry is free, but the room fills up fast.
Book ahead so that you don’t miss the next one, whether you’re getting up or just here to watch someone else’s mate get thrown to the wolves.
